Working Principle

The UPM1H150MDD series utilizes a non-polar aluminum electrolytic technology. This gives it the necessary ability to function in both AC and DC applications without requiring any polarity. The top and bottom layers of this capacitor are made out of aluminum foil which is then sandwiched by a special oil-resistant paper which acts as an electrolyte. This sandwich is then sealed with a rubber boot to prevent it from leaking. The capacitor is then filled with an electrolyte fluid to form its dielectric. The capacitor is then charged with a certain voltage and can oscillate between charging and discharging depending on the frequency of the application.

During operation, when a voltage of opposite polarity is applied to the capacitor, a small current will flow through the foil layers. This will cause a displacement of charge between the two layers and its stored energy will increase. When the voltage is removed, the stored energy will be released and current will flow in the opposite direction.
