Aluminum electrolytic capacitors, also known as aluminium electrolytic capacitors (AEC), are classified into polarized capacitors for their solid aluminum oxide layer formed between two pieces of aluminum foil, one of which is etched. This solid aluminum oxide layer acts both as the dielectric of the capacitor and as the seal between the electrolyte and the aluminum foil.
