Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors (AECs) have many applications in the areas of home electronics, consumer electronics, industrial processing and power supplies. The most popular application of Anode-metalized AECs is in high-performance low-voltage power supplies as they are reliable and have a long service life in comparison to other available technologies. The high-performance, low-voltage AECs are typically designed and constructed from a round cylinder body with L-shaped end-plates. The capacitance of the AECs is proportional to the area of the electrodes and the spacing between them. To understand the various applications of AECs and their working principles, one must look into the UPW1H100MDD AEC from a design and operation standpoint.

The UPW1H100MDD AECs are classified as miniature, low-voltage radial leaded aluminum electrolytic capacitors. They are made of aluminum or tantalum foil, single ended winding and are epoxy resin sealed with nickel-plated leads and a surrounding plastic sleeve. Each capacitor has a rated capacitance which is denoted in microfarads. The UPW1H100MDD has a capacitance of 2.2 μF, with a ± 20% tolerance, and can operate at a maximum working voltage of 50V.
