It can greatly reduce the radiant energy impulse at the secondary side of the circuit by cutting off the high-voltage voltage entering the circuitry. In operation, when the power supply voltage rises too high or drops too low, the TVS diode will enter into a avalanche breakdown state, effectively shunt away most of the surge current away from the protected components.
The avalanche breakdown of the diode is a process wherein electrons accelerate their movement due to a strong electric field. This complicated process is established based on the characteristics of the p-n junction, which forms an electric field allowing the electrons to flow from the p side to the n side of the diode. When the voltage applied to the diode exceeds the breakdown capacity, the p-n junction initiates current conduction in the avalanche mode, thus limiting the voltage surge.}
