PTC Resettable Fuses are essential components used in many industries and applications with saftey concerns as a primary need. The PTC resettable fuse uses resistance temperature detectors such as thermistor to achieve the required protection level. It is designed to react to temperature changes to functioning as an automatic fuse and works on a quick resetting principal. A PTC resettable fuse can provide surpassing protection and convenience than the traditional mechanical fuses.
The VTP240F is one of the most popular resin coat PTC resettable fuse in the market. It has an operating temperature range of -40 ℃ ~ +85℃ and is rated at 15A/250V. This would suffice for most of the industrial applications such as lighting, heating,communication and other safety devices.
The VTP240F application field and working principle is relatively simple and straight forward. It is a combination of two physical elements – piezoelectric/ceramic element and a metal casing. The operating mechanism of the VTP240F involves two stages – initial stage and reset stage.
The initial stage occurs when a current above the rating of the device flows through the contacts. This causes a large temperature rise which vaporises the solder bead covering the ceramics which triggers the switch to open. In the reset stage once current is reduced that is below the rated level the temperature reduce and process of resoldering takes place allowing the PTC fuse to recover and allow current flow through the contacts. This process repeats each time current exceeds the rated value setting a short circuit interrupting the electric current flow.
The VTP240F satisfies the requirements of IEC60335(Clause 24.a), CQC(CQC1700031) UL(E108132) and TUV(R7160669). It provides a compact and efficient solution for short circuit protection and operates at high speed.
When compared with traditional mechanical fuses, PTCs offer an additional layer of security for wiring applications. With thermo-sensitive properties, the PTC resettable fuses are able to detect higher current flow than the rated one and react intuitively by cutting the power off. This also protects electrical components from thermal damage and degrades from current surges.
