0034.3127.TR Application Field and Working Principle of Fuses
Fuses are a type of electrical protection device used to protect against overcurrent, overvoltage, overload or short circuit. The fuses are inserted into a circuit and if the current level in the circuit exceeds a certain predetermined level, the fuse will blow, thus preventing further damage. There is a wide variety of fuses and different types have different characteristics and are therefore suitable for different applications. 0034.3127.TR is a time-lag (or slow-blow) fuse designed for medium and low voltage applications. This type of fuse has a delay characteristic which allows it to allow a user to start or shut down motor loads of different speeds without the fuse blowing immediately. The 0034.3127.TR fuse has a current rating of 10 A and voltage rating of 600 VAC. It has a long, thin lag time. This fuse is suitable for use in applications which require circuit protection and a delay factor, such as motors, transformers and capacitors. The working principle of a fuse is based on a thermal effect. A fuse is constructed of a metal strip with a relatively small cross-sectional area which limits the amount of current it can carry. The current passing through the strip causes it to heat up; if the current exceeds a certain level, the heat generated by the current is sufficient to melt the metal strip. When the metal strip melts, it quickly creates an open circuit which prevents further current flow. By interrupting the current flow, the fuse prevents any further damage due to an overload or short circuit. The time required for the fuse to melt, known as its melting time, depends on the material used in the metal strip and its cross-sectional area. The 0034.3127.TR fuse has a time-lag characteristic which allows it to permit overcurrents for a certain period before blowing. This characteristic is achieved through the use of a special alloy in the metal strip which has a higher melting point than standard fuses. This means that if an overload or short circuit occurs, the current will be interrupted but with a slight delay, allowing a motor to be shut down in an orderly manner.
