Fuses: 0034.7325 Application Field and Working Principle
Fuses are used for protection from overcurrents in electrical circuits. They are used to limit potentially damaging current to a safe level. Fuse 0034.7325 is an especially popular type. It is a time-lag fuse with terminal blades, created to protect high-power components and applications in high-voltage circuits.
The fuse is based on a range of technologies. It is characterized by its slow-blow or time-lag trip-characteristic. This type of fuse can withstand heavy inrush currents, such as those created by switching power supplies, but it will also allow clearly excessive sustained currents to remain unfused for the same duration. The 0034.7325 fuse has two terminal blades for making connections. One of the blades is the sharp, plastic fuse link tip which fits into a terminal hole. The other terminal blade is the mounting anvil or ‘hinge’, which provides a mechanical connection between the fuse and its holder. The mounting anvil blade is bent and can pivot on a screw head, allowing for a tight electrical connection between the fuse and the wiring.
The 0034.7325 fuse, like all fuses, works on the principle of heat dissipation. It contains a conductor, typically made from copper or some other metal, which has an electrical resistance. When the current in the circuit rises above safe levels, due to something like a short circuit, the conductor will heat up due to the current passing through it. As the conductor becomes hotter, its resistance increases and it begins to dissipate the current. As the current dissipates, the heat released increases and the temperature of the conductor rises even further, thus increasing its resistance and further dissipating the current.
Once the temperature of the conductor reaches a certain point, it will expand and burst open in a process called fusing. This causes an abrupt change in resistance which stops the current flow and eliminates the risk of an electrical fire. The 0034.7325 fuse is designed to withstand the higher currents of high-voltage circuits, and it is also designed to be able to carry the normal load of the circuit safely and without tripping.
The 0034.7325 fuse is designed for use in high voltage circuits and applications.
