Flat flex cables are composed of several layers of metal and pliable material. First, the copper is laminated to the flexible core, which is usually made of polyimide or paper fiber. Then, the cable core is insulated with a variety of materials, such as PVC, polyester, or polyimide.

The cable’s current carrying capabilities are enhanced with the addition of shielding materials, including aluminum, copper, and foils. This is followed by an outer coating, usually PVC, for reinforced insulation and protection.

Ribbon jumper cables are made of multiple conductors which are insulated from each other. These conductors can be simple, stranded wire, or copper wrapped around a ceramic core. They are the perfect solution for on-board applications because of their small size and high current carrying capability.

The conductors are arranged in parallel, with each conductor separated by insulation, typically PVC. As flat flex cables, they can also be double shielded with a combination of aluminum foil and polyester, chosen for their flexibility and shielding performance.
