Design
The 0157.100DR is a dual-element, time-delay fuse with a minimum interrupting rating of 10,000 amperes at 500 volts. It has a 100 ampere rating and its time-delay characteristics allow intermittent operating currents up to 250 amperes for up to 200 seconds. It is available in both ferrule or panel-mount styles in a very small 33⁄32” x 13⁄8” size.
Operation
The fuse operates on basic principles that are common to a wide variety of fuses. Its two elements work together to protect the system, providing adequate current with little or no delay until the excessive current is reached. Once the predetermined overload or short circuit current has been exceeded, the element that responds to overloads will open, allowing the current to travel through the second element which is specifically designed to respond to short-term overloads. This dual element design ensures protection against both short-term overloads and possible fault currents.
Testing
Testing of the 0157.100DR should be conducted as with any other fuse. Visual inspection of the fuse for any damage should be done prior to testing. Testing should be done after installation and routine testing may be done on a periodic basis as specified by the manufacturer’s instructions. During testing, make sure that there are no line projections or arcs between the fuse and the absorber. Tests should be done in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
Applications
The 0157.100DR is well suited for use in a variety of applications where intermittent overloads may be expected. It is often used in applications such as motor starting, transformer loads, and high-wattage areas such as buseways and heavy equipment.
