Introduction
TXP fuses are low voltage fuses that are designed for over-current and over-voltage protection. They are specifically used in low voltage distribution systems where up to 600V of current passes through the fuse. The TXP fuse is a miniature version of the traditional fuses and is used in medium voltage circuits as well as in residential, commercial and industrial applications. The fuse is made of a metal foil and is categorised in accordance with its current rating.
Application Field
TXP fuses are applicable to a range of components and systems including: residential applications including protected cables, fluorescent lighting, planar transformers, and air conditioning; commercial applications such as HVAC equipment; industrial applications including distribution and motor control applications; and medical/transportation applications. These fuses are also widely used in RV and marine power systems, as well as in railway rolling stock.
Working Principle
TXP fuse technology works on the same principle as a light bulb - when a controlled amount of current passes through the fuse, it produces enough heat to increase the resistance of the device. This results in a path being created for the current to flow and a switch is made in the connection. The connection limit is determined by the power and voltage rating of the fuse.
When the fuse is overloaded, it will heat up very quickly and open the connection before any permanent damage occurs. This is known as circuit ‘fusing’ and is what makes the device so important in electrical systems. Fusing provides a vital function of protecting the components from damage and safety hazards that are caused by excess current.
TXP fuses are connected in series with the circuit and are designed to severely restrict the amount of current that can flow through. Depending on the type of fuse, it will either blow when the current is too high, or will remain in place and not blow when activity resumes. This allows the device to take over the duties of short-circuit protection.
Conclusion
In conclusion, TXP fuses protect circuits from over-current and over-voltage damage and are used in many industrial, residential, commercial and medical applications. The working principle of the TXP fuse is based on the same laws as a light bulb, where a controlled amount of current passes through the device causing resistance and protecting the circuit. TXP fuses are used in combination with other circuit protection devices such as circuit breakers and are an essential component of all electrical systems.
