0304.500ZR Application Field and Working Principle

0304.500ZR fuses are designed for over-current protection in a variety of power applications, including motor control, air conditioning, and other heavy industrial equipment. The recommended voltage is 600 volts AC or less, and the rated interrupting capacity is 10 kilo-amps. 0304.500ZR fuses feature a dual-element Fusetron technology which protects against both overloads and short-circuits.

Working Principle

The 0304.500ZR fuse is a time-delay fuse that ties two elements together. The first element is the blow-molding space, a floating element that functions by creating a time delay for the fuse. The second element is a current sensing element which operates upon recognition of an excessive overload or a short-circuit arc inside the fuse.

When a overload occurs, a heat energy is generated from the electric current and is slowly absorbed into the air space of the fuse. This pace of energy absorption is determined by the ambient surrounding temperature and the volume of the air space. If the overload persists, the heat energy will eventually accumulate to the exploding point and trigger the fuse element locally.

For short-circuits, the current sensing element coupled with the sequential timing of the blow molding element makes it possible for the 0304.500ZR to open and interrupt the current. This set-up helps to ensure an all-round reliable operation under challenging environmental conditions.
