031-71059 Application Field and Working Principle
Coaxial Connectors (RF) are one of the most familiar form of connectors. These connectors are usually used in the field of radio frequency (RF) applications, such as in communications systems, antennas, and other electrical components. The principles of operation of coaxial connectors are not as complicated as they may seem, and they are actually quite simply explained.
Coaxial Connectors (RF) are typically characterized by having an inner and outer conductor. The inner conductors are usually the center conductor of the cable, and the outer conductor is a metal shield which both guards against interference from outside sources and acts as a ground for the signal.
The inner conductor is insulated from the outer conductor and a gap is created between the two to allow signals to pass freely between them. This gap is filled with a dielectric material which is designed to maintain the signal\'s integrity as it passes through the gap, as well as provide mechanical support for the outer conductor. This dielectric material can vary from air to several different plastics or waxes, depending on the application.
When inserted into the connector, the inner conductor passes through the center of the dielectric material and is set slightly above the ground surface. This allows for low signal loss and minimizes the amount of interference to other components. All of these factors combine to provide a very efficient signal path with minimal signal loss.
The outer conductors are typically one of two varieties: braided or spiral-wound. The braided outer conductor is the most common type of coaxial cables and is formed by a layer of mesh made from copper or aluminum. This type of wiring provides excellent shielding against outside sources but provides less flexibility than spiral-wound wires. Spiral-wound wires are generally used in shielded applications that require higher flexibility such as in communications or antenna systems.
The size of the coaxial connectors (RF) is determined by the size of the inner and outer conductors. Generally, the larger the diameter of the conductors, the greater the signal strength and signal loss. However, larger conductors can also cause more interference for other components in the system.
In addition to the inner and outer conductors, coaxial connectors (RF) also typically feature a strain relief that helps to protect the cable from the wear and tear of daily use. This strain relief helps to keep the connection between the connectors and the cable secure, reducing the chance of the cable being pulled out or otherwise damaged.
Coaxial cables are generally used in many different types of applications from communication systems to antennas. They provide a secure and reliable connection that can withstand the elements and ensure an efficient signal path with minimal signal loss. In the field of radio frequencies, coaxial connectors (RF) are an invaluable source of reliable connectivity.
