The working principle of the 0402ESDA-AEC1 is based on the saturation of the TVS diode layer. When the surge currents or voltage spike exceeds the breakdown voltage, the diode layer switches off. This “clamping” blocks and absorbs the transient energy (i.e., voltage spikes and surge currents) that is over the specified limit and provides maximum protection. The device also has a low capacitance characteristics, thus preventing the signal distortion and lowering the noise level.
When the transient voltage passes the breakdown voltage, the diode layer is in the off-state. It is then capable of absorbing the transient energy by modulating its respective junction capacitance, which can be up to 110pF. The device is designed to start its action at breakdown voltage. The device’s breakdown voltage is determined further by the circuit environment it is connected to. The 0402ESDA-AEC1 has a lower junction capacitance than other TVS diodes, allowing for higher speed signals or data transmission with no distortion or signal loss.
