The MRL is a type of dielectric, voltage-independent, current-limiting fuse for use in electrical circuits. The MRL is commonly used in electrical equipment such as power transformers, motorized devices, air conditioning systems, UPS systems, voltage stabilization equipment, and other applications where overcurrents may occur. It is also used as a backup device in these applications, should the main device be inoperable or damaged. The MRL is also used in thermal protection systems, as its thermal characteristics are well suited for this type of application.
