Compared with terminal and pin headers, the female sockets consume more board space but provide extra reliability.In general, the most important application of rectangular connectors are home appliances, automotive, industrial equipments and telecommunications equipments like mobile phones, computers etc. They can also be used in a variety of communication technologies such as USB, HDMI, fiber-optic, etc. In addition, the working principle of rectangular connectors is to establish a dependable path of electronic signal from one electronic device to the next. The working of a header and receptacle assembly is linear, with the plastic housing acting as an insulator. The pins, usually made of brass with gold plating helps to maintain a secure contact, and protect from oxidation. In addition, the latching system maintains a secure connection, and even shocks or vibrations do not cause disconnection. Overall, rectangular connectors are a reliable form of interconnection, and with the wide range of products available, they can suit almost any application.
