DIN 41612 backplane connectors provide signal and power connections for high-density applications in the fields of medical, industrial and communications equipment. They are used when it is necessary to route a large number of signals over a distance such as between a backplane and daughter boards. The connectors provide a reliable and secure connection between the backplane and daughter board, minimizing crosstalk, EMI/RFI interference, and utilizing board-mounted grounding contacts to reduce impedance.

The DIN 41612 connector system supports current levels ranging from 1A to 7A, data transfer speeds of up to 3.125 Gb/s and offers bandwidths of up to 800 MHz. The connectors are available in a range of different sizes, from 9 to 98 contacts in 500mm lengths, with different shrouding and coding options. The connectors can also be customized to the customer\'s specific needs, with features such as insertion interlocking or mechanical coding.

The working principle of the DIN 41612 backplane connectors is to provide galvanic connection between different board planes. This is accomplished by polarization and keying of mating parts. A key pin is defined on female side and fits into a key front on the mating surface of the male part. The male part also contains an additional key ramp that adds a push-on mating function. This results in a self-locking connection for further secure engagement.

The contact system used in the DIN 41612 backplane connector is compliant with the standard DIN 41612. The DIN 41612 contacts are held securely in place by an alignment and retention system, which also provides a secure connection without solder. The contact retention technology is protected by a clear insulating cover that is arranged in the inclined angle and thus improved the EMC characteristics.
