Contacts

Contacts are used as components in a variety of electrical and electronics systems. They are used to establish or interrupt an electrical connection. Contact materials vary from simple solder alloys and plastics to refractory metals and tungsten. They are designed to carry current in the form of alternating current (AC) or direct current (DC).

In a contact, the contactor is typically made of one or more materials that can be soldered, brazed, or welded into place. The contactor also often includes a bridge, an insulating material or a spring. The materials used in the contact include soft gold, soft iron, copper-nickel alloys, and hard gold. Soft gold is the most widely used due to its high conductivity and low resistance.

Spring Loaded and Pressure

Spring loaded and pressure contacts are used in many industries and for many different applications. They are used to includes switches and relays, safety interlocks, automotive and industrial controllers, and specialized terminals. The main purpose of these types of contacts is to transmit an electrical current while at the same time providing a reliable, low-resistance connection.

When used as a switch, the spring loaded contact is usually designed to open and close when a certain level of force is applied, usually through the use of a spring. The force of the spring will cause the contact to open or close, thereby allowing or interrupting the flow of electricity. Pressure contacts also use springs, but instead of the force being applied externally, the contact is typically compressed between two surfaces and the force of the surfaces causes the conact to open or close.

In addition to switches and relays, spring loaded and pressure contacts are also used in power supplies and power control devices, along with other electrical components. The working principle is the same in all applications – when the contact is closed, an electrical connection is established and when the contact is open, the connection is broken.
