Circuit Breakers
0914400 Application Field and Working Principle
Circuit breakers are electrical devices that are used to protect circuits from overloads and short circuits. In the past, fuse boxes or manual circuit breakers were used to prevent a circuit from overloads and short-circuiting, but modern circuit breakers have evolved in both form and function. Modern circuit breakers are primarily used to protect circuits that are being supplied with power from a circuit breaker panel or distribution board, or as part of an integrated circuit protection system. They are designed to detect an overload or short circuit on a power line, and then to quickly break the circuit in order to prevent a fire or electrical shock. Circuit breakers are also used in industrial and commercial applications to protect large-scale electrical components and systems from damage due to overloading or short-circuiting. The operation of a circuit breaker is determined by the type of circuit breaker that is being used. The two most common types are the thermal-magnetic circuit breaker and the hydraulic-magnetic circuit breaker. Thermal-magnetic circuit breakers are usually used in residential applications to protect against overloads and short circuits, while hydraulic-magnetic circuit breakers are used in commercial and industrial applications to protect against large-scale electrical systems and components. Most circuit breakers operate according to the same basic principles. When an overload or short circuit is detected, a current-sensing device in the circuit breaker trips, which then initiates the operation of the breaker. This trip can be caused by a thermal effect, an increase in electrical current, or a combination of both. When a thermal-magnetic circuit is used, a bimetallic strip is heated as a result of increased current passing through it. As it heats up, the strip bends and mechanically trips the breaker switch to break the circuit. In a hydraulic-magnetic circuit breaker, the breaker senses an increase in the current value and trips a switch mechanism that causes a moving contact plate to open. In both cases, the circuit breaker will open the circuit and interrupt the flow of electricity. The circuit breaker must then be reset manually before electrical energy can flow through it again. This is typically done by setting a switch to the open position.Circuit breakers are also designed with safety features that add additional protection for both humans and equipment against electric shock. For example, some circuit breakers are equipped with an immune response that triggers an alarm if the breaker exceeds a predetermined temperature. This ensures that the breaker will not become too hot and potentially cause a fire. Furthermore, certain types of circuit breakers are equipped with residual current protection devices (RCDs) that detect any electrical leakage and shuts off the circuit in case of a fault.Overall, circuit breakers play a vital role in protecting our electrical systems, devices, and components from overloading and short circuiting. They are used in a wide range of applications, from residential to industrial, and provide an effective method of preventing electricity-related accidents. Furthermore, circuit breakers are designed with a number of safety features, providing an extra layer of protection against electric shock. The specific data is subject to PDF, and the above content is for reference
