Flat Flex Cables

Flat Flex Cables (FFC) are flexible ribbon cables with short insulation-coated wires that are bonded together with an insulating material. Depending on the type of material, Flat Flex Cables are used in various applications such as: industrial motor control applications, medical systems, electronic control systems, digital signal processing, manufacturing, assembly, and other diverse applications.

The wire ribbon in the FFC contains a single stripe that contains three conductors (white, black, and red). The inner wires are made of copper, insulated in polyester, and the outer layer of ribbon is insulated with ABS. There are various sizes, materials, and configurations available for Flat Flex Cables.

The FFC terminations are designed to address a variety of internal wire configurations. Common types are: soldered, crimped, and PC board, in addition to locking seating and shielding applications. The Flat Flex Cable construction is compatible with most types of connector systems. The rectangular shape of the wires is designed to fit within a designated slot in the connector.

Ribbon Jumper Cables

The insulated strands of wire are connected to the pins at one end, either with soldered connections or through crimp connections. The cables are then usually protected with a nylon jacket or by some other form of heat shrinkable material.
