The insulator has two rear-facing chambers with two sets of interlocking slots that allow contacts to be installed and secured in the side by side positions. The insulator also has two laterally spaced reinforced ribs that accept and secure the die-cast aluminum hood. The hood features a polypropylene lip that prevents the entry of dust or debris.

The thermoplastic latch cap is a molded piece specially designed for the 1102501-6. It snaps onto the hood, locking the contacts in place and providing excellent protection against unwanted access to the pins. The latch cap is also designed to allow corrosion-resistant, and the required torque to keep it in place is lower than with traditional die-cast hoods.
