Heavy duty connectors are used in a variety of industries to attach and power electrical and electronic equipment. These connectors are designed to withstand long-term, continuous use in harsh environments such as found in the mining, machining, offshore, construction, and oil and gas industries. Each heavy duty connector has three integral components: housings, hoods, and bases.
1102501-6 Application Field and Working Principle
The 1102501-6 heavy duty connector is a multipin device designed for use in hazardous and corrosive environments, and is certified to meet UL and CSA requirements. It is used mainly in the oil and gas industry to transfer power to and from stationary and mobile equipment, and is suitable for both new and repair applications.
The 1102501-6 consists of four components: a metal base, a polypropylene insulator, a die-cast aluminum hood, and an engineered thermoplastic latch cap. The base is designed to accommodate from one to six contacts, depending upon the specific application and requirements. The contact pins are secured by a nickel-plated steel cage and held in place by a machined locknut and O-ring. The pins are arranged in a single row with their mounting holes offset.
The insulator is made of lightweight polypropylene and secured to the base by four stainless steel Allen screws. The insulator has two rear-facing chambers with two sets of interlocking slots that allow contacts to be installed and secured in the side by side positions. The insulator also has two laterally spaced reinforced ribs that accept and secure the die-cast aluminum hood. The hood features a polypropylene lip that prevents the entry of dust or debris.
The thermoplastic latch cap is a molded piece specially designed for the 1102501-6. It snaps onto the hood, locking the contacts in place and providing excellent protection against unwanted access to the pins. The latch cap is also designed to allow corrosion-resistant, and the required torque to keep it in place is lower than with traditional die-cast hoods.
The 1102501-6 is widely used in the oil and gas industry but is also suitable for connecting electrical equipment in other industrial applications, such as in the automobile, aerospace, mining, and construction sectors. It offers proven protection against dust and environmental contaminants, along with superior strength and durability.
