RF directional couplers, or more properly radio frequency directional couplers, are specialized radio frequency (RF) devices that are used to measure or sample the power in a section of a transmission line that leads away from an attached source, such as a transmitter. RF directional couplers often look very much like attenuators and double stub tuning elements, but their operation and purpose in use are quite different.
