FFC, FPC (Flat Flexible) Connectors

Flat flexible connectors (FFC) and flat printed circuit connectors (FPC) are types of connectors used to connect two circuit boards. They are designed to fit onto two boards and provide an electrical and mechanical connection, while still allowing the boards to be moved relative to each other (e.g. due to thermal stress). Both FFC and FPC connectors are characterized by the use of flexible, flat (but stiff) printed circuit boards, which are usually made of polyimide, in a variety of different contacting styles.

FFC and FPC connectors are typically used in applications where space constraints and thermal considerations play an important role in the design of the product. Examples include consumer electronics, telecommunications, automotive, medical, aerospace and military applications. FFC connectors are used to make connections between two printed circuit boards (PCBs). The working principle of FFC and FPC connectors is the same as most other types of connectors. When connected, the contacts on each side of the connector are in direct contact, allowing an electrical signal to pass from one side to the other. This is done by the use of metal contacts (usually gold-plated) that are held in place by the connector housing and covered with a protective layer that helps to protect the contacts from environmental damage.
