Fixed inductors are commonly used in circuits operating at frequencies below 1 kHz such as filters, oscillators, timers, and power supply regulators. They are most often made from a spiral of wire wrapped around a non-insulating core such as ferrite, air or powdered iron. The wire will also have some insulation around it, usually in the form of enamel or other nonconductive materials, even with this insulation the inductors create losses in the form of eddy currents or core losses.
At higher frequencies, they usually have the form of small coils wound on a ferrite or powdered iron core, while at lower frequencies they usually use air cores. The inductance of these components is proportional to the number of turns in the coil, and the permeability of the core it is wound on.
The 1130-150K application field is on the higher side of frequencies, but not too high. This type of inductor is usually used in applications such as radio receivers, speech synthesisers, frequency doublers, active filters, power supply regulators, transmitters, high-frequency switching regulators and more. It gives a good combination of Q and series resistance.
The working principle of the 1130-150K is also relatively simple. It uses a powdered iron core which is wound with a specific number of coils that form the inductor. This number is depended on the type of application the component is used in. The core is then inserted into an epoxy mold which also contains the other components in the circuit that the inductor will be connected to.
The coil is then subjected to a dc current under which it acts like a transformer and produces an inductive field which opposes any change in the current that passes through it. This creates a dampening effect for frequencies above the design frequency of the inductor, making it suitable for high-frequency applications.
