Rectangular Connectors - Headers, Male Pins, is a category of connectors which link devices together. 1218157-2 is one type of connector which has an application field and working principle.1218157-2 connectors have a field-attachable design with easily changeable terminal positions which makes them suitable for a wide range of applications. The terminals can be assembled quickly and easily and allow for easy modifications, making them suitable for field-supported applications. The terminals have an insulation displacement contact design with solder tails which allow it to be easily connected to stranded or solid conductors. The contacts are brass-opened nickel plated with UL94V2 material, and offer significant plating to ensure reliable contact. Furthermore, the connectors also have an added benefit of visually indicated lock-and-poke terminals which allow for quick confirmations whether the connections are properly locked and the connection is made.The working principle of 1218157-2 connectors is based on insulation displacement contact technology which allows connecting to both stranded and solid conductors by simply inserting the conductors into the terminal area. The terminal area contains an insulation displacement contact (IDC) which treats the conductors as individual conductors and makes an electrical connection only when the conductors touch the contact points. This electrical connection is then locked by pushing the locking tab and pulling the conductor in order to create the mating force which creates the electrical connection. Furthermore, the locking tab also offers added security since no supplementary locking mechanism is required and the connection is fully committed when the locking tab is engaged.In conclusion, 1218157-2 connectors offer a wide range of application fields due to their field-attachable and easy-to-modify design, and have an insulation displacement contact design which ensures reliable contact and proper connections.
