A NTC thermistor, also known as a negative temperature coefficient thermistor, is a type of temperature sensor commonly used in a wide range of application fields for the purpose of measuring temperature. The 123GG1K NTC thermistor is one such device which has fast response times, along with a small size and low cost making it ideal for a wide range of applications. It is suitable for use in high-temperature environments, and offers flexibility as additional sensing elements can be added for applications which require a more complex temperature sensing system.
The working principle behind the 123GG1K NTC thermistor is based on the fact that all materials have a certain amount of electrical resistance, and that this resistance changes according to temperature. As temperature increases, the resistance of a material decreases, and as temperature decreases, its resistance increases. The resistance-temperature relationship is not linear for some materials, such as NTC thermistors. This phenomenon of the resistance of a material changing with temperature is known as the Seebeck effect, and it is this effect that the 123GG1K NTC thermistor utilizes for its temperature measurement.
The 123GG1K NTC thermistor is constructed from a specialty polymer, which itself is made up of resistive elements. When the device is exposed to a certain temperature, the polymer undergoes a change in its chemical composition which affects the resistance of the resistive elements. The magnitude of this change in resistance in relation to changes in temperature is predetermined, and as such the device is said to possess a specific temperature-resistance response. This response is measured with an ohmmeter or multimeter, with the resistance varying according to changes in temperature.
Once the device’s temperature-resistance response has been determined, it is then possible to calculate the temperature of the environment using a mathematical formula. The most common technique for doing this is by referring to a look-up table, as this can be used to quickly determine the temperature from the measured resistance. It is also possible to calculate the temperature directly from the measured resistance utilizing an algorithm, however this method tends to be more time consuming.
The 123GG1K NTC thermistor is a versatile device which is suitable for use in a wide range of temperature sensing applications. It can be used to measure ambient temperatures from −55°C to +150°C with a response time of less than 15 seconds. It is commonly used in heating and air conditioning systems, and due to its small size and low cost it is also well suited for temperature monitoring applications. Additionally, additional sensing elements can be added for applications which require a more complex temperature sensing system.
