The 12FR050E is a through-hole resistor with extremely high resistance ratios of up to 250Ω. This resistive element is generally used in the fields of signal transmission, power distributions, circuit protection, and filtering. It is also commonly used in high-frequency systems, such as switching-mode power supplies, AC/DC converters, and motor drives.The 12FR050E utilizes two technologies to provide resistance. The first is the use of a resistive foil element. This resistive element is made of a special alloy composed of two metals, such as tungsten and molybdenum. This alloy is then formed into a thin foil and cut into the desired size. This thin foil is then sandwiched between two layers of an insulating material, such as ceramic, plastic, or epoxy. The second technology used in this resistive element is a self-aligning contact. This contact is made of a metal, such as copper, and is connected to the resistive foil by means of a soldered joint.To illustrate the working principle of this resistive element, let us consider an AC voltage source connected to a 12FR050E resistance. When the AC voltage source is connected to the 12FR050E, the voltage is applied to the resistive foil and this causes it to heat up. As the temperature rises, the electrical resistance of the foil also increases.
