Film capacitors are a type of capacitor that uses thin dielectric films deposited on an insulating substrate as the insulation medium. The 150393J400CB consists of a metalized polypropylene film dielectric, encased in an IP68 rated, double layer double-sided UL94V-0 rated UL recognized ABS thermoplastic housing. The metalized film dielectric eliminates miniscule air particles, which increases its operating temperature range up to 120°C and its insulation resistance up to 10,000MΩ.The 150393J400CB also features a long-term stability of time-dependent loss and dielectric strength, an extended temperature range up to 125°C, a low dissipated factor, and an improved self-healing property.The working principle behind a film capacitor is the same as that of any other type of capacitor. It stores energy within the capacitor as electrostatic charge. The voltage applied to the capacitor\'s terminals causes electric charges to accumulate on the electrodes, creating an electric field between them and across the dielectric material. The voltage applied to the terminals of the capacitor causes the current to flow through the cable, and this current gets stored as electrostatic energy within the capacitor.When the capacitor is connected to a voltage source such as an AC power supply, the electric field between the terminals creates an AC waveform across the dielectric material, and this waveform induces an electrical current in the circuit. The AC current in the circuit then reverses direction and accelerates electrons to the cathode, and this generates a voltage across the terminals of the capacitor and creates an electric field. This reduces the amount of voltage in the circuit, and the collapsing field causes the electrons to flow to the anode, thus creating a negative voltage across the terminals of the capacitor.The electric field across the dielectric of the capacitor then creates a time-dependent electric current, and this current creates a magnetic field which is responsible for the phenomenon of self-healing. This magnetic field produces an opposing current in the circuit, which counteracts the current in the capacitor\'s terminals and prevents the capacitor from discharging itself completely.The 150393J400CB capacitor was specifically designed to provide an extended temperature range, low EMI, and higher energy efficiency than other types of capacitors.
