Fixed Inductors

Inductors are components that form an inductive circuit and act as a passive component in an electrical network. This role is to store energy in the form of a magnetic field. The variety of components traditionally fall into two categories: variable and fixed inductors. The fixed inductor being the focus of this discussion.

The power handling is rated up to 0.22 W for the K case, 0.10 W for the Fg case, 0.20 W for the Nb case, and 0.09 W for the Pb case.

The design of the 1537-32K fixed inductor offers compatibility with automatic placement equipment mounting. More specifically, the 1537-32K series features a flat surface on the widest part of the inductor allowing for easier surface mount installation in most instances. Even with its small form factor of 0.7 x 0.4 inch (17.8 x 10.2 mm), the inductor offers a wide value range of inductance between 1.7 µH and 18 ¿H, and inductance tolerance of ±10% depending on the characteristics. The maximum DC resistance is 70 mΩ and the maximum allowable DC current is rated up to 0.84 A. The design also features a low profile, that is, a height at 2.3 mm maximum with a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, making it suitable for most applications.

The working principle of the 1537-32K fixed inductor is similar to the working principle of a transformer. In essence, an inductor will react to a change in current, producing a voltage drop proportional to the frequency of the applied current. This induced voltage creates an opposing force to the applied current. The greater the material used in the inductor the greater the resistance and the more energy is required to charge the inductor. This resistance generates a back EMF(electromotive force) that is inversely proportional to the rate of change of current.
