The 1601332-1 is a dimensionally positive-locking insulated wire splice connector that works on a simple principle. It consists of a mating male and female shell that helps secure wiring between two points. This shell contains two distinct parts, The first part being the Insulated Female Locking Unit (ILU), which comprises of a dielectric housing, a positive locking lance, and two metering pins. The ILU is inserted in the mating male part known as the Insulated Male Locking Unit (IMLU), that contains the Blind-Head Connector (BHC) and the Insulated Male Inserts (IMI).

When the two components are joined together, the two metering pins from the ILU insert into the IMI of the IMLU, securing the wiring in place and positioning the external insulation of the wire in the correct location. As the two parts are joined together, the positive locking lance ensures that the shape and size of the wire is optimally matched for proper insulation and utmost electrical performance. Once in place, a manual crimping tool is used to complete the connection.
