USB Connectors
USB (Universal Serial Bus) is an industry standard developed in the mid-1990s that defines the cables, connectors, and protocols used for connection, communication and power supply between computers and other electronic devices. The USB standard is used to connect computer peripherals including keyboards, mice, game controllers, printers, scanners, digital cameras, flash drives, and external hard drives. USB hubs are also available for connecting multiple USB devices to a single computer.
There are three types of USB connectors: Type-A, Type-B, and Mini-USB. Type-A connectors are primarily used on the host or upstream side of a connection, while Type-B connectors are found on the device or downstream side of a connection. Mini-USB connectors are used to connect small, portable devices such as digital cameras and mobile phones.
In addition to the three standard USB connectors, there is also a Micro-USB connector which is smaller and thinner than the Mini-USB connector. Micro-USB is the most recent USB connector specification and is used primarily for smartphones and other mobile devices.
DVI Connectors
DVI (Digital Visual Interface) is a high-speed video-transfer protocol used to connect digital video devices. It is commonly found on personal computers, digital projectors, and monitors. DVI was developed by the Digital Display Working Group (DDWG) and is based on the VESA (Video Electronics Standards Association) Digital Flat Panel (DFP) standard. DVI connectors are available in three different types: DVI-A, DVI-D, and DVI-I.
DVI-A connectors are used for analog connections between display and source devices. They use the same pins as the standard VGA connector but are not compatible with VGA cables. DVI-D connectors are used to connect digital display devices and source devices. They use a single link that carries a digital video signal. The DVI-I connector is a combination of both DVI-A and DVI-D and is compatible with both analog and digital signals.
HDMI Connectors
HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) is a popular cross-industry audio/video interface standard for transferring uncompressed video and audio data from a source device such as a DVD player or set-top box to a display device such as a television or computer monitor. HDMI connectors are available in two types: Standard HDMI and Mini HDMI.
Standard HDMI connectors can be used to connect standard-size HDMI-related devices such as A/V receivers, Blu-ray players, video game consoles, and cable boxes. Mini HDMI connectors are slightly smaller and can be used to connect smaller devices such as digital cameras, camcorders, and portable media players. Both types of HDMI connectors support high-definition video and multichannel audio signals.
HDMI connectors can be used to connect devices with different types of audio/video output formats such as composite (standard definition), component (HD), and VGA (SD) to devices with HDMI input ports such as HDTVs, Blu-ray players, and A/V receivers.
