170M3164 application field and working principle

170M3164 is a two-terminal quick-break fuse with Threaded stud-type end-caps and 120/240VAC rating, commonly named as MINI-BLADE Fuse. This fuse is designed for applications required by the UL523, UL 2579 or the CSA C22.2 No.248.1. Of course, UL248 and CSA C22.2 — 14 specifics and standards are also applicable.

Application

170M3164 is mainly applied to Indoor applications which need power protection. This is common in countless working scenarios including power supply for residential and building power supply automation systems, power supply for elevator, power supply for floor systems and also in AV electronics. In general, 170M3164 could provide numerous circuit protection for different electrical equipments like TV, A/V systems, etc.

Working principle

170M3164 fuse works in accordance with the melting principle. When the current exceeds the rated current, it can respond in less than 5 seconds. The fuse has a special heating wire inside, and the control wire is embedded and connected with the surrounding environment. The internal heating wire wil be heated when the rated current passes through. When the current is higher than the normal condition, the heating wire will be heated further and when the current reach a certain temperature, the melting wire will fuse and melt.

After the melting wire melts, electrical current will be instantly cut off, effectively protecting the circuit from being burned. When the current is restored to the normal state, the used fuse needs to be replaced in time.
