170M4843 Application Field and Working Principle

The 170M4843 is an electrical, specialty fuse, designed by Eaton to protect electrical wiring and circuits from being overloaded. Specifically designed to meet UL489 and CSA standards, this midget type, time-delay fuse has a ceramic body, ferrule ends for easy connection to larger sources, 600VAC rating, and is rated at 10kA interrupting capacity.

Protecting motors, lighting fixtures, and other home and commercial wiring, this specialty fuse is suited for many different applications, ranging from household electronic equipment to industrial machinery. Measuring 1/4 of an inch by 1 1/4, its small size helps limit space requirements and makes it easy to install.

Working Principle

The basics of the working principle of the 170M4843 is that when the current passes through the fuse, the heat generated causes a copper element (often referred to as a link) in the fuse to melt, thereby opening the circuit and breaking the flow of electricity.
