A surface mount terminal block is another popular option for connecting wires. This type of terminal block is designed to be soldered directly onto a printed circuit board. They are commonly used to provide a secure connection in electronic projects, and can provide wiring solutions on boards where space is at a premium. Surface mount terminal blocks are available with 2, 3, or 4 poles, and are commonly used in small, low power devices such as consumer electronics.

Through-hole terminal blocks are designed to be installed in a drilled hole in the printed circuit board. This type of terminal block utilizes two screws or solder posts to hold a wire in place at either end of the terminal block. Because of this installation method, through-hole terminal blocks tend to have the best mechanical stability in comparison to other types of terminal blocks. This makes them a good choice for higher power applications, such as the wiring of motors, pumps, and other larger systems.

No matter what type of terminal block is used, all of them use the same basic principles to connect the wires. A strip of metal or plastic is used to clamp the wire in place. The wire is inserted into the terminal block and then a set screw is tightened to securely hold the wire in place inside the terminal block. This ensures a good connection between the wires.
