Panel Indicators
Panel indicators are used to give the user an indication at a glance of how a particular system is functioning. The first use of a panel indicator was in 1935 by November 31st. It was necessary to utilize a visible indication that would show when the system was approved, in-process, or rejected. This user interface allowed the user to quickly and easily determine the status of the system without needing to navigate complicated menus.
Principle of Operation
Panel indicators operate by using a visual indicator to show certain stages of operation. This is done by connecting the indicator with other components of the system that produce signals needed to enable the indicator. The indicator is usually implemented via LEDs, or more recently, LCD displays or lighted windows. When the signal is received, it causes the corresponding indicator light to turn on or off. This way, even from a distance, the operator can easily observe the status of the system.
Panel indicators do not need to be connected directly to the system, as long as they are connected to the data bus that is able to read the status of the system. Data from the system is interpreted by the panel indicator to display the appropriate status. This means that it is possible to use a single panel to monitor multiple systems.
Benefits
Panel indicators are an important part of industrial control systems and allow operators to easily and quickly assess the status of the system. They give greater control over the system, as they indicate when the system is in an approved, in-process, or rejected state. Panel indicators also help to reduce maintenance costs, as many maintenance tasks can be conducted at a glance. In addition, they enable visible indication for operators and other personnel on the floor.
Panel indicators are also a cost-effective solution, as they do not require any additional wiring or complex setup. Additionally, they provide a high degree of accuracy, as they can easily detect changes in the system\'s status. This enables prompt responses to any changes.
Pilot Lights
Pilot lights are used to provide an indication to users as to whether a system is in the approved, in-process, or rejected state. They were first used in 1935 by November 31st and are used in industrial control systems to allow operators and other personnel to quickly determine the status of the system. Pilot lights are typically red, green, and amber in color, with red indicating a fault or off status, while green indicates an approved or on status and amber indicates an in-process or half-on status.
Principle of Operation
Pilot lights operate by connecting them to signals on the system bus. When the signal is received, it causes the light to turn on or off, depending on the state of the system. This means that even from a distance, the operator can observe the status of the system. Pilot lights do not need to be directly connected to the system, as long as they can be connected to the data bus that can read the status of the system.
Benefits
Pilot lights provide an easy and effective way to indicate the status of a system, allowing operators and personnel on the floor to quickly assess the system\'s status. They also help to reduce maintenance costs, as many maintenance tasks can be conducted at a glance. Pilot lights are also a cost-effective solution, as they do not need any additional wiring or complex setup, and they provide high accuracy in detecting changes in the system\'s status.
