2-1447232-0 Rectangular Connectors - Housings: Application Field and Working Principle

Rectangular Connectors - Housings, commonly referred to as RCH, are a type of electrical connector used to join two or more conductive surfaces. They are used in a variety of applications, including those found in computers, telecommunications, and telecommunications equipment. RCHs are available in various sizes and can be customized to the particular needs of the application.RCHs provide a reliable connection that is able to resist shocks and vibrations, as well as environmental corrosion. This makes RCHs suitable for use in applications where power and instrumentation signals are transferred between two or more conductive interconnects. They are available in various contact configurations, depending on the application, including direct, indirect, and blind mate designs. The types of contacts are designed to reduce contact resistance and increase conductivity. This includes a metal contained contact that is designed to reduce the contact resistance attributed to surface oxidation (oxidation resistance). Additionally, various functional designs can be found, including push-pull, snap-lock, latching, screw-lock, and crimp fasteners. Finally, some RCHs are designed to have power applied directly to them, eliminating the need for required additional wiring between the RCH and the host application. This allows for more efficient power management – both in terms of energy usage and cost savings – as there is no energy required to transfer power to the RCH.To power up or energize the connections within a rectangular connector - housings, a number of methods are used depending on the application’s needs. Most often, this involves an electrical signal, such as an electrical current, being transferred from the power source to the connectors themselves. The current then passes through the contacts within the connectors, which will then set up a circuit path for the electricity to flow from the source to the intended destination.Apart from the electrical current, a range of other techniques are used to power or activate a connector. These include pneumatic and hydraulic pressure, optical energy, electromagnetic or radio frequency (RF) signals and data integration. Each of these approaches has its own unique advantages and disadvantages, depending on the application’s requirements. In addition to the above methods, a range of RCHs are designed to self-activate or trigger. This is achieved by the presence of an appropriate switch or trigger within the connector, which will then place the connector in the active state. This reduces the need for external stimulus and instead relies on a pre-defined condition within the RCH to engage it.The combination of these different activation methods helps simplify the powering up or energizing of RCHs and makes them suitable for a range of different applications. The key advantage of RCHs is that they provide a reliable, strong and consistent bond between two or more surfaces, which are crucial in numerous applications. This durability and general reliability makes the RCH perfect for use when joining materials which require a strong and consistent connection.
