NKB (Non-Intrusive Key Bus) is a single pair of twisted, coated cables that can be used to power, control and monitor motors and other equipment. The use of NKB has become increasingly popular in automation applications as it provides a continuous power source, improved efficiency and a reduction in the number of wiring requirements. NKB also provides an easily installable system with improved flexibility and increased safety. In LED indication applications, NKB has become the preferred choice for discrete applications, such as LED indicators, indicating where the key is and providing confirmation of the operation or status of the equipment.
LED indication applications are powered by NKB and use a DC voltage to drive a circuit. The circuits provide a low voltage operating power to the LED, which is supplied via the ground connection. An electronic switch is then used to operate the LED, thus providing a visual indication of whether or not the equipment is powered or has successfully completed a task. This switch is connected to the NKB wires and will switch the LED on or off when the NKB is either powered ON or OFF.
The detection of the NKB power cycle is carried out using an optoelectronic device. This optoelectronic device acts as a conversion medium between the DC voltage and light. The light emitted from the device is then used to activate the LED. The optoelectronic device can be located near the NKB cable, thus allowing it to detect the power cycle. When this is detected, the LED will be lit, indicating when the equipment is powered.
LED indication applications can also provide additional feedback and confirmation on the working of the equipment. This is generally achieved through the use of a square wave pulse which is sent when the equipment completes a task or operation. The pulse is detected by the optoelectronic device and then used to drive the LED, thus providing an indication of the successful tasking. This provides an easily noticeable indication and can help eliminate further confusion or problems with the equipment.
NKB is an easy to install and cost effective solution for a wide range of industrial, commercial and residential applications. In addition to providing a continuous power source, NKB also allows for flexibility and improved safety, as well as potential savings in terms of wiring and installation costs. In LED indication applications, the NKB system is ideal for providing discrete responses, such as LED indicators to confirm the operations of the equipment, as well as providing feedback and confirmation of the working of the equipment.
