RFI and EMI - Shielding and Absorbing Materials are becoming increasingly important as our world continues to become ever more connected. The 21109599 application field is vast, covering methods for suppressing or absorbing interference from both internal and external sources. We must also consider that a wide variety of materials to include metals, ceramics and composites are applied to achieve the desired result. Thankfully, there are a number of options available for the protection against unwanted electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI).
The primary goal of any EMI and RFI shielding product is to reduce the problems associated with electromagnetic interference from internal and external sources. In order to do this, specific materials are used to absorb or reflect interfering signals. These are often referred to as “shields”. Examples of these materials include tin-plated or copper-plated steel, stainless steel, aluminum foil, conductive plastic, and special EMI and RFI absorbing materials. Each of these materials has a specific purpose, and each specific material provides a certain amount of shielding or absorption.
The working principle of these shielding and absorbing materials is based on the theory of electromagnetic induction. When the electric and magnetic fields present in a circuit are disturbed by an external electromagnetic source, a change in current is caused in the conducting medium, resulting in what is referred to as an ‘induction’. Electromagnetic shielding materials reduce this induction by reflecting and absorbing the external signal, which reduces or eliminates the interference.
The choice of which type of shield to use will largely depend on the size and type of the interference being encountered. Large objects such as transmission lines and antennas are often covered in copper or stainless steel foils to reduce the amount of signal radiating into other parts of the system. Smaller objects, such as circuit board components, may require smaller shields such as conductive plastics or EMI/RFI absorbing materials. The shielding materials used should have a high Permeability (the ability to absorb the energy of the electromagnetic field) and a low Permittivity (the ability to reflect the energy of the electromagnetic field).
It is also important to note that while adding EMI and RFI shields can greatly reduce the amount of interference in a system, it is still important to make sure that the system itself and the components being shielded are protected from damage. Shielding materials reduce interference but do not remove the cause of the interference. Therefore, it is still necessary to make sure that the components and the system are designed to be robust enough to withstand the effects of EMI and RFI.
In conclusion, 21109599 material field and working principle fall under the broader categories of RFI and EMI - Shielding and Absorbing Materials. These materials are used in many different fields to absorb, reflect, or reduce the effects of electromagnetic interference to ensure the safety and proper operation of electronic systems. Each material has its own specific purpose and application range, and a careful consideration of the type of interference and the environment in which the material will be used is key to achieving an effective EMI or RFI shielding solution.
