A rotary switch is a switch in which a circular disc or rotor is used to establish or break an electrical connection. Most rotary switches are actuated by a knob or lever, but some types use pushbuttons. The 212-7 rotary switch is a spring-loaded, four-pole switch designed to multiplex two circuits with single-pole groups and two circulating poles.
The 212-7 is well-suited for applications needing frequent switching and high reliability. It has a 4-pole, 8-position configuration, with two positions disabled for pole overlap. It also features shorting contacts for inching or low-speed control, and provides a provision for slow-make operation, allowing for smooth, quiet operation. It is designed for both DC and AC current at rated voltage of 250V, with a contact rating of 10A.
The 212-7 has two common fixed wafer contacts, while the other two fixed contacts are rotating. As the switch is actuated, the rotating contacts engage with one of the common fixed contacts. This creates a link between any two of the six selectable terminals. As the switch is turned further, the rotating contacts disengage from the common fixed contacts and the link is then broken. This process is repeated until the contacts reach the stop position, at which point the switch is disabled. The 212-7 features two additional contacts that are in a continuous 360-degree circulatory path, which allows for the combination of two circuits.
The 212-7 rotary switch is a reliable, durable switch that is easy to mount and operate. Its unique design allows for smooth and quiet operation, as well as the ability to combine two circuits. Its four different poles make it well-suited for applications needing frequent switching and high reliability.
