Circuit Breakers are used in a variety of applications, from industrial power distribution to residential home circuits, to protect wiring and equipment from dangerous levels of electrical current. The 219-3-8625-18 Circuit Breaker is a single-pole double-throw (SPDT) breaker, designed for operation in a household environment. It features an adjustable current trip setting, from 30A to 50A, and is listed for use with branch circuit wiring applications. The breaker is approved to UL1077, CSA 22.2 and IEC 60269, and comes with a one-year limited manufacturer’s warranty.

The 219-3-8625-18 Circuit Breaker functions as a switch for one set of two wires, typically the live or "hot" wire carrying the electrical load from the incoming power source, and a neutral wire returning the current to the source. When the current across the two wires reaches the breaker’s preset trip level, the mechanism inside the breaker trips, and the contacts open, to safely interrupt the power flow. The breaker is then reset by pushing it back into its “ON” position.

The function of the 219-3-8625-18 Circuit Breaker is based on the use of bi-metallic strip technology. A bimetallic strip consists of two strips of different metals that are securely bonded together. When the strip is heated, the metal with the lower thermal expansion coefficient expands more than the metal with the higher coefficient, which causes the strip to bend. In a circuit breaker, the bimetallic strip is connected to a lever, so that when the strip bends, the lever is moved to open or close the electrical contacts. A movable nodule, called a “trip”, is adjusted to make the contact of the lever move closer to the strip when the current reaches the designated trip current. When this happens, the strip heats up more, and bends quickly to trip the lever, and the breaker turns off. The trip can be calibrated to trip the breaker off at different current levels depending on the application.

The strength of the 219-3-8625-18 Circuit Breaker is in its ability to provide instantaneous response to dangerous over-current situations. Its bi-metallic strip design gives it precise control over trip level and alerts users quickly to potential electrical faults. This makes it an ideal solution for use in branch circuit wiring applications, as it provides protection from electrical faults while still allowing for adjustable current levels. Additionally, the breaker is small, lightweight, and easy to install, making it a cost-effective way to provide safety and protection in a residential environment.
