Circuit Breakers
A circuit breaker is an automatic device used to protect an electrical circuit from damage due to overload or circuit fault. It performs the same function as a fuse, except the circuit breaker can be reset after it trips, and a fuse needs to be replaced. Most circuit breakers are rated by their interrupting capacity, which is the maximum amount of current that they can safely interrupt without breaking down. In single-pole circuit breakers, a single switch controls a single phase of current. In two-pole circuit breakers, two switches control two phases of current.
229-2-33735-101 Application Field and Working Principle
The 229-2-33735-101 circuit breaker is designed for applications in the range of 0-125 amps. It is UL rated for up to 150 volts AC/DC. It is a two-pole circuit breaker, meaning it can trip two phases of current simultaneously to protect a larger electrical system. It is also CSA certified for Canadian installation. When an overload or circuit fault occurs, an internal bimetallic strip along the circuit breaker senses the heat generated by the overload, causing the bimetallic strip to bend. This bends two operating arms, which cause the circuit breaker to trip and cut the power supply to the affected circuit.
The circuit breaker contains two contact points known as main contacts. These are responsible for carrying the electrical load when the circuit breaker is in the closed position. When the bimetallic strip bends, a release lever attached to the operating arm pushes the main contacts apart, cutting off the power supply. An auxiliary contact on the circuit breaker senses when the main contacts open and interrupts the power supply. A reset lever is used to manually reset the circuit breaker, pulling the contacts back together and restoring power.
The 229-2-33735-101 circuit breaker is a two-pole self-protecting, auto-reclosing device. It is designed for use in a broad range of residential and commercial applications, such as industrial or retail installations. It features high interrupting capacity and a wide range of voltage and amp ratings, allowing it to be used in a wide range of applications. Its auto-reclosing feature allows it to reset itself when power is restored, eliminating the need to reset it manually. It is UL listed and CSA certified, offering superior safety and reliability, making it an ideal choice for both residential and commercial applications.
