24LC64-E/P, or 24-Lead Plastic Dual-In-Line Package EEPROM Memory, is a non-volatile memory device with a maximum storage capacity of 8kbits. It has low power consumption, fast access time, and multiple-byte write capability. As a result, it is ideal for a wide range of applications which require low-power non-volatile memory such as embedded system control, low-power data-logging, and consumer electronics.

Application Field

The 24LC64-E/P has a number of uses in consumer electronics, automotive, industrial and automotive applications. In consumer electronics, it is used for video game consoles, MP3 players, digital cameras, and other consumer electronics. Working Principle

The 24LC64-E/P is a non-volatile memory device, meaning that it retains its stored data even when the power source is disconnected. Its principle of operation is based on the Fowler-Nordheim tunneling effect, whereby electrons from the source layer tunnel through the insulator layer to the drain layer. The 24LC64-E/P is composed of two components: the memory array and the memory interface. The memory array consists of 8kbits of non-volatile memory cells, arranged in an array of 256×32 cells. The memory cells can be programmed and erased electronically via the memory interface. The memory interface consists of address control, control/data bus and memory interface control logic. Address control consists of A0-A15 (16-bit) input pins which define the address of the data or instructions in the EEPROM. The control/data bus consists of 8-bit multiplexed address/data bus with bi-directional capability.

The memory interface control logic consists of two registers – the control register and the status register. The control register is used to control the various operations of the 24LC64-E/P, such as read/write, program, and erase. The status register is used to indicate the current operation and the completion of operations. It can also be used to indicate possible errors.
