RFI and EMI - Contacts, Fingerstock and Gaskets
The 25-55CPS-BD-16 or Composite Shielding Fingerstock Gasket, made from a combination of copper foils with dielectric spacer materials, is widely used in electronic applications for shielding radio-frequency interference (RFI) and electromagnetic interference (EMI). In more recent times, it has seen an increase in its scope of use due to its wide variety of materials, its cost-effectiveness, and its ability to provide electrical connectivity.
The standard zinc-plated, gold-plated, or stainless steel fingerstock sheet is manufactured using copper or aluminum foils in a variety of thicknesses ranging from 0.036” (0.9mm) to 0.002” (0.05mm). It is then cut into various lengths and widths as per customer requirements. The fingerstock is then compressed between two or more flat dielectric spacers and adhered using an adhesive to create the gasket.
This composite gasket is typically used for applications such as RFI/EMI shielding, grounding, and mechanical sealing. As such, it is well-suited for a wide range of electronic applications, including connectors, flanges, housings, electronic cans, backplanes, and cabinets.
In terms of electrical performance, the 25-55CPS-BD-16 demonstrates reliable electrical performance across a wide range of frequencies, including low-frequency radio waves and high-frequency microwaves. The conductive gasket also provides excellent mechanical strength and superior temperature-resistance properties.
In terms of working principles, the 25-55CPS-BD-16\'s design seeks to provide electrical continuity between two metal surfaces by forming a low-impedance electrical connection. The gasket\'s electrical conductivity ensures a uniform electric field within the system, and its low-mass design prevents undue attenuation. This enables the gasket to help minimize signal attenuation and diffusion, and to provide efficient and reliable electromagnetic shielding.
The 25-55CPS-BD-16 provides maximum shielding effectiveness and superior current distribution across a broad frequency range, making it an optimal choice for electronic applications where EMI/RFI shielding and grounding are desired. The gasket is also a cost-effective alternative to more expensive shielding alternatives, making it an attractive option for a wide range of electronic applications.
