What is Ferrite Bead?

It also acts as a combination of a common mode filter and a high frequency filter. It also reduces noise both radiated and conducted.

Ferrite beads are also used in applications such as cellular phones, notebook computers, flat panel displays, digital cameras, gaming consoles, routers and switches, and modems. Some applications also require the use of a ferrite bead to increase the electromagnetic shielding effectiveness of a device. In addition, ferrite beads can also be used for the transformer noise reduction.

Working Principle of Ferrite Bead

The working principle of the ferrite bead can be explained as follows. The ferrite bead acts as a high-impedance (resistance to the flow) to the high frequency signals that are present in the wires. The electromagnetic fields that are created by these signals will not be able to pass through the bead, as its composition is such that it has a high impedance. Therefore, when the high frequency signals pass through the bead, the energy in these signals is reduced, thus, reducing the interference they can create.

In addition, the ferrite bead works as an electromagnetic shield and helps to reduce the deleterious effects of electromagnetic radiation on the circuits. Because of its physical structure, it also disrupts the flow of currents that may be present in wires. By disrupting the flow of these currents, it helps to reduce the effect of the energy they produce.
