25AA040-I/SN is a type of serial electrically erasable programmable memory (EEPROM) which is available in a very small 4-pin SOT23 package. It is easy to use and offers some very useful features that can allow for a wide range of applications when used with the right type of hardware:

The 25AA040-I/SN is a 16Kbit memory, divided into 1K pages of 16 bytes each and is capable of accepting up to 2MHz data rates. It can also be used as a 32Kbit memory, by doing a special write cycle and then accessing the upper 16kbits of memory. It comes with a high-speed write protect feature, which allows for protection of some or all of the memory, depending on the needs of the user.

Working Principle:

The 25AA040-I/SN memory is powered by an external voltage which can range from 2.7V to 5.5V. When this voltage is applied, it will enable the memory to access the data stored in its internal address space. This address space can be up to 16kbits. To access the contents of this address space, the host system will send a byte representing the address, followed by a read or write signal.

When a write command is received, the data that is stored in the memory will be updated with the corresponding data as provided by the host system. Once this data has been written to the memory, the 25AA040-I/SN will be able to store the modified data until a write protect signal is sent, which will lock the data until the write protect signal is reset. When executing a read command, the 25AA040-I/SN will send out the contents of the data which is located in the corresponding address.

The 25AA040-I/SN is also available in an industrial-strength version, the 25AA040-I/SN-EXTI, which is designed to withstand higher temperatures and longer working times in demanding environments. The extended temperature range covers -40°C to +85°C and has a guaranteed data retention of 10-years.

The 25AA040-I/SN-EXTI also has built-in write-protection features which make it possible to protect some or all of the memory by sending a specific write protect signal.
