The low element is a metal-oxide varistor (MOV), which is designed to react very quickly to low overloads and short circuit conditions, whereas the high element is a filamentary conductor which reacts to high overloads and sustained steady-state over-currents with time-delay characteristics.The MOV component reacts first, providing fast-response protection against both low and high overload current levels up to 5 times the rated current. The high element, which consists of a series-connected element and a parallel-connected element, will be triggered in sequential order on encountering an overload current higher than the rated value. As a result, the circuit receives extensive over-current protection against both current surge and sustained overload.In addition to providing reliable over-current protection, the 2CLS-5R also performs well in terms of its dielectric strength and environmental protection capabilities. Its dielectric strength of 3000VAC is ideal for protecting circuits from voltage transients, and it has been tested to be highly resistant to corrosion and other environmental conditions.
