A RTD (Resistance Temperature Detector) is a type of temperature sensor with a 32207582 application field and working principle. It works by measuring the temperature-dependent resistance of a material and converting it into a temperature value. RTDs are commonly used to measure temperatures in laboratory settings, industrial plants, and medical and food service facilities.
RTDs are made up of a small, cylindrical body and a delicate, tiny wire coil inside of it. This coil is usually twisted or woven to form a two- or three-wire element. The main disadvantage of RTDs is that they require specialized circuitry for thermistor measurements. The circuitry must be properly configured to measure temperatures accurately and to avoid drift or degradation. Additionally, due to its small size, the RTD’s wires and the instrumentation required to connect to it should be protected from mechanical stress and vibration.
RTDs are suitable for a wide variety of industries and applications. In manufacturing and industrial process settings, they are used to measure the temperature of large containers and vessels, as well as small openings inside pipes. In laboratory settings, they are used to measure the temperatures of test tubes and other equipment. In medical settings, they are used to monitor the body temperatures of patients and to measure temperatures from a variety of sources. In food service facilities, RTDs are used to measure the temperatures of food products.
RTDs offer superior temperature measurement accuracy, excellent long-term stability, and less noise than thermocouples.
