Panel Indicators, Pilot Lights

32R-2217T indicator is widely used in industrial control panel. Working principle of 32R-2217T

The 32R-2217T indicator consists of two light emitting diodes, one red and one green. The light emitting diodes are embedded in a single package of aluminum alloy. The light from the two diodes is combined into a single beam while travelling through the orifice of the indicator to exit as one mixed color beam. When the switch is opened or closed, the different color light is emitted from the two diodes, thus changing the color of the emitted light beam.

The indicator works on a basic principle of diode circuit voltage drop. When a voltage is applied to the circuit, current flows through the diodes and drops some of it across the diodes. The voltage drop across the two diodes depends on their wattage and the resistance of the circuit. The lower wattage diodes will drop lower voltage across it and thus the greater amount of current will be directed through it, resulting in a brighter light.

This indicator operates with a nominal voltage of 12Vdc. When the application voltage is greater than 12Vdc, the current passing through the two diodes is increased, resulting in a brighter light. Conversely, when the application voltage falls below 12Vdc, the current passing through the two diodes is decreased and the light emitted by them is dimmed.
