Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) and Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) are two fundamental sources of electronic interference. RFI is electromagnetic noise generated from electrical or electronic devices that can interfere with stable operation of electronic equipment or communication systems, while EMI is the electrical interference generated from one or multiple sources to interfere with the operation and functioning of another device or system. Shielding and absorbing materials form a crucial part of RFI and EMI mitigation systems.

There are many materials available for use in RFI and EMI shielding and absorbing applications. The level of interference depends on the type, quality, and application of the material. The most commonly used materials for shielding are copper, aluminum, and stainless steel mesh.
