Temperature sensors are essential electrical components which are used to measure the temperature of a medium or a system. They are available in a wide range of form factors, including those based on ambient air temperature; fluid temperature; automotive engine oil and transmission fluid temperature; room-temperature; and surface temperature. The three main temperature sensing technologies are thermostats, mechanical temperature sensors and infrared thermal imaging. This article will discuss the application field and working principle of 3500003 thermostats and 3500003 mechanical temperature sensors.
Thermostats
Thermostats are the most commonly used temperature sensors. They are used in a variety of applications including home or industrial heating systems, air conditioning systems, refrigerators, and medical equipment. Thermostats are typically composed of two main components, a sensing element and a switching device. The sensing element is typically a bimetallic disc or bulb that expands as the temperature increases. This expansion opens or closes a series of small electrical contacts, which triggers the switching device which then turns on or off a heat source such as a heating element, fan or compressor as required to maintain the desired temperature.
Mechanical Temperature Sensors
Mechanical temperature sensors are the oldest and most basic type of temperature sensors and are used in a wide range of applications such as hot water tanks, ovens, irons and fryers. These sensors consist of two parts; a sensing element and a switch. The sensing element is typically made of a metal rod or wire whose expansion or contraction with temperature is used to activate or deactivate the on/off switch. As the temperature increases, the rod or wire expands to trigger the switch. as it cools, the rod or wire contracts, deactivating the switch. This type of temperature sensor is reliable, inexpensive and accurate.
Temperature sensors are essential components for many industries and applications. Thermostats and mechanical temperature sensors are the two most common types of temperature sensors used today. Thermostats use a bimetallic disc or bulb as a sensing element and use an electrical switch to control a heat source. Mechanical temperature sensors use metal rods or wires as a sensing element and use an on/off switch to control a heat source. These two sensors have different capabilities and characteristics, so the selection of the appropriate temperature sensor is an important part of any application.
