Fuses: 3AB 4 Application Field and Working PrincipleFuses, also known as current-limiting fuses, are used in electrical networks to provide overcurrent protection. Fuses are designed to blow when an overload or short circuit occurs. Fuses are held in place in the circuit by clips, and upon excessive current flow they instantaneously heat up, melting the metal inside and quenching the electrical arc. These fuses are commonly found in power distribution systems, circuit breakers, industrial machinery, and residential applications. 3ABs are especially useful in industrial settings because they are designed to be fail-safe and explosively shatter when they blow. This helps to prevent extended overcurrent conditions which might otherwise cause hazardous conditions. Working Principle of 3AB FusesThe 3AB fuse works on the principle of the electric current heating up a metal element which then melts, breaking the circuit and interrupting the current flow. The 3AB is designed with two elements which act independently. An electric current passes through the first element which heats up gradually if the current is too high, eventually melting and breaking the circuit. The second element is designed to be more sensitive and trips much more quickly, protecting the circuit at higher currents. Once the metal elements of the fuses melt, the circuit is interrupted and the current flow is stopped.
